Lee B. Talner, MD
Dr. Lee Talner is Emeritus Professor of Radiology at the University of California San Diego (1969-1993) and the University of Washington (1993-2009). He directed the radiology residency at UCSD for 10 years before becoming Chief of Radiology at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center. Lee served as president of SUR and APDR and was elected honorary lifetime member of the European Society of Uroradiology. He retired from clinical practice in 2008 to devote his energies to arts education and music. Life after a bountiful academic radiology career can be equally gratifying and fulfilling. Lee has a lifetime passion for music and photography. Since 2001 he has been photographing the interactions between performing artists and Seattle schoolchildren, exhibiting his photographs annually and using them for fundraising, audience education and grant writing. He is a serious student of the viola da gamba, teaching the instrument to high school students. He plays in the Seattle New Baroque Orchestra and is a founding member of “A Curious Collection”, an ensemble specializing in 18th century Scottish music. Lee serves on boards of several nonprofit arts organizations, including the UW World Series of Performing Arts, Seattle Baroque Orchestra, Early Music America, Early Music Guild of Seattle, Viola da Gamba Society of America, and Pacific Northwest Viols. Lee currently writes about how photography can be used to support arts education and teaching artists.
